Get to Know: Higher Ground Consulting Group

Higher Ground Consulting Group is a business consulting firm that thrives off companies that share a passion for inclusive and equitable business practices, and are laser-focused on sustaining and safeguarding their business’ growth, economic impact, and competitive edge. Our scope of services includes business and sales training and supplier diversity consulting.

What has been the biggest lesson learned during your entrepreneurial journey, and how have you used that to grow your business?

My biggest lesson learned thus far has been the importance of pace and the power of pause. The entrepreneurial journey isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. When I first started Higher Ground Consulting Group, I overextended myself as a team of one, and I soon realized that I was not operating at my optimal performance level. I used that lesson to emphasize the importance of structure in my business and realistic expectations of myself and have experienced manageable growth since.

What are some unique challenges your team faces on a daily basis? How are these challenges conquered?

Consulting is viewed as an expense to a business rather than an investment in a business, which means our services are typically not sought until there’s an issue. Higher Ground Consulting Group is selling the value rather than the perception of consulting. I know that, if given the chance to engage with a prospective client, our results will speak for themselves.

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice at the beginning of your business journey, what would it be?

Progression is not perfection. Nothing will be perfect, so if you wait for that perfect time, perfect business plan, or the perfect amount of money saved to start your business, you’ll die with the dream still in you. Don’t worry about perfection, rather make small steps towards progress each day.
